New funding to support data literacy for Scottish SMEs

Funding & Support, News 17/02/2021

Funding for Data Literacy

Initially launched in Edinburgh and south-east Scotland through the City Region Deal, The Data Lab’s Data Skills for Work programme has been awarded an additional £100k of funding to roll out our Data Skills Credits across Scotland to support the SME workforce to upskill and reskill.

We have funding available for employers and for training providers. Applications to both funds will close at 5pm on Monday 8th March 2021.

Funding for employers

We have £40k available that will be distributed in small grants of between £500 and £5,000 towards the cost of data related training for SMEs in Scotland. Grants can be used to fund training offered by further and higher education institutions and other training providers. We welcome applications where training has already been identified but can also support you to find the right training provider for your needs.

Funding for training providers

We have £60k available for training grants of up to £20,000 to providers to enable them to offer free training places for staff of SMEs in Scotland. Providers can be colleges, universities or any other training organisation that can offer data training to staff of SMEs. We welcome partnership proposals.

The Data Skills for Work programme aims to act as a gateway for individuals and businesses seeking training in data analytics, data science, and other data-related activities to help them take advantage of the world of work shaped by data-driven innovation. The programme is committed to creating opportunities for workers in jobs that are being changed by automation, as well as those who may experience barriers to education or in work progression, including women returners, people with disabilities, and BAME communities.
