New job site targets Scotland’s booming digital technologies industry

News 30/04/2017

A new free-to-use job site has been launched by FutureScot.com, targeting the growing digital technologies sector in Scotland.

The industry is currently experiencing rapid growth; a recent survey by ScotlandIS found that 82% of Scotland’s digital technologies businesses expect sales to increase in 2017. 78% of firms forecast that they will hire more staff this year, compared with 66% in 2016. For small businesses, that figure rises to 84%

Software and web development remain the most in demand skills but there is also a strong requirement for commercial, business support and project management skills, which are required by more than two thirds of companies.

A growing number of firms (73%) expect to recruit most new staff from within Scotland, compared with 60% in 2016.

FutureScot.com reports on the digital technologies industry in Scotland and the way it is impacting people’s lives, both nationally and globally. It also organises regular events on how digital is transforming sectors such as education, healthcare and construction.

For Hamish Miller, Director of FutureScot, a job site was the natural next step for the FutureScot brand.

He said: “Scotland’s tech sector is booming and there is a lack of job sites catering to this targeted audience. Employers are looking to attract the brightest and the best, and people with much-needed skills want to find a working environment that is both rewarding and supports their ambition to have a positive impact on people’s lives. We wanted to provide a platform on which connections between these two groups could be forged.”

The website was developed for FutureScot by Edinburgh-based Border Crossing Media. Luke Kelly, Assistant User Experience designer, said:

“Border Crossing Media were delighted to help long-term clients FutureScot develop an online jobs portal for the technology sector in Scotland. Their aim was simple, wanting to disrupt the Scottish tech jobs market by aggregating the best jobs on one website. So we worked with FutureScot to reimagine how a jobs portal should work for this specific market. As well as providing self-service capabilities for both employers and job seekers. The jobs portal has also been extended to display live job feeds from both public and private sector sources. But this is just the start and we’re looking forward to helping FutureScot monitor and optimise their latest digital service.”

The site is free to use for both employers and job seekers and can be accessed via http://jobs.futurescot.com
